The year 2007 has not been any different for the most highly acclaimed tennis player of today's time. He has continued to reach the highest standards far and wide.
Roger's present year started with the victory at the Australian Open which made it his third title in his winning books. He also won the tenth Grand Slam title after he won over Fernando González of Chile in the final, with the statistics 7-6(2), 6-4, 6-4. Before Roger it was Bjorn Borg who had won the Grand Slam titles without even a single dropping set in the year 1980.
Roger recovered his status in the Dubai Men's Open title and won the match after defeating the Russian player Mikhail Youzhny in the grand finale with the statistics 6-4, 6-3. His win-loss match statistics was then raised to 12-0 and he had won a record of 41 consecutive matches.
Though his winning record then slid down a bit with his next defeat from Guillermo Cañas during the second round of Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells, though he had previously won this title for three years at a stretch.
Roger again lost in the Sony Ericsson Open in Florida to Canas, but this time on the fourth round. After the match however he was awarded with four ATP awards, which created a record of Roger being the first player to receive four awards in the same year.
He reached his second consecutive finals of the Monte Carlo Masters, where he lost as the previous year of 2006 to Rafael Nadal. With the score of 6-4, 6-4.
Roger again lost a match from Filippo Volandri, during the third round of the Internazionali d'Italia in the historical city of Rome. The losing score was 6-2, 6-4. This year brought about a certain drawback in Roger's career and he lost four consecutive matches without even winning a single title after being ranked number 1 worldwide.
Then in the month of May, roger seemed to have recovered his excellence and he defeated his most difficult opponent Nadal for the very first time which awarded him the title of Hamburg Masters tournament. This also brought an end to Nadal's record of winning 81 consecutive matches. It also brought about Roger's thirteenth ATP Masters Series title, in his winning books.
Recently at the French Open Roger again reached the grand finale for the second consecutive time but he got defeated again from Nadal with a score 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The first ever controversy relating to Roger sprang up after he announced to withdraw from the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, which he had been winning in the last four years at a stretch. He gave the reason of fatigue and he also feared a possible injury. This brought about various speculations and interests over the issue over Roger's withdrawal's main reason. He had been losing quite a few matches and that was the major topic of discussion all over.
Roger then recently attempted for the Wimbledon match without any warm-up tournament. Even then Roger emerged victorious beating Rafael Nadal in the grand finale with a score of (7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2). Therefore he held a record of winning the title for the fifth consecutive time which is a major achievement only achieved once by Björn Borg.
So the year 2007 has though given him some major defeats, he has been able to buck up and still maintain his standard quite well.
