The success seemed to have continued since the very beginning of 2005, when he achieved his third title in a row The Hamburg clay court title over Richard Gasquet in the month of May, on which he had earlier been defeated in Monte Carlo.
He went on playing the French Open then but got defeated after entering the semifinals, the winner was finally his contender Nadal.
Roger then again won the Wimbledon title in the rematch with Andy Roddick which awarded him the success of winning for the third consecutive year. He then also won over Roddick getting the AMS title of the year for the fourth time by defeating Cincinnati, Roger then marked his name in the history to be the first player in the to win four AMS titles altogether in one season.
He won over Andre Agassi in his second U.S Open title for the second consecutive time in the finals. He also held the honor of becoming the first man in the era of opera to gain victory back to back in Wimbledon and the U.S Open in two years at a stretch.
Roger lost a very crucial match of his career to David Nalbandian from Argentina in the Tenniss Masters Cup title. The match was a very long four and a half hour, with five sets. If he had won this match, he would have made his win-loss statistics to be 82-3, having a tie with the record of John McEnroe in the year 1984, which was for the highest wins in the year.
Roger was altogether a winner of three Grand Slam single tournaments in the year 2006 which raised him to the rank of number one at the end of the year. His points were about several thousand more than the nearest competitor he had.
The year's first Grand Slam tournament was supposed to be the win of Roger, after giving a defeat to Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis. In the month of match he again won his titles of previous years winning over the Indian Wells-Miami and he also then became the first ever player to win this title for two consecutive years.
Roger had to lose the 2006 French Open to the champion Nadal again, if he had won the title it would also have awarded him the first man to capture all the four Grand Slam titles together at the same time after Rod Laver.
Even though he lost the title of all the four Grand Slams but he was one of the only two players ever who have reached the finals of all four Grand Slam single tournaments, himself and Andre Agassi. Roger as always left a mark and won the Wimbledon title yet again, winning it for the four consecutive years over Nadal.
He was victorious in his North American tour also where he defeated Richard Gasquet from France in the finale round, winning the 2006 Rogers Cup in the city of Toronto.
Roger then ended the year with a blast when he won the year's last Grand Slam title over Andy Roddick, to achieve the third consecutive title.
Roger then defeated the champion David Nalbandian in the Tennis Masters Cup at the Shanghai city. He then went on defeating the American Champion James Blake in the grand finale and finally won his third Masters Cup Title.
The year 2006 gave him losses from only two players, The French Open final, Rome final, Monte Carlo and Dubai with Nadal and Andy Murray in only one match of the Cincinnati Masters.
